about us...
Combining delicate folk and dreamy psychedelia with powerful soft, alt rock LADY bring a unique sound to the table. At the core of LADY's songwriting and live performance are the emotive, classic vocals from front woman Rebecca Herrington and the dynamic wash of sound enveloping them from band members Christian Veitch, Tom Griffin, Jess Williams and Hayden Giles. Expect story driven compositions that explore love, forgiveness, womanhood and longing. Influences include Jeff Buckley, Big Thief, Joni Mitchell, early HAIM, and Khruangbin.
LADY have established themselves live since appearing on the scene in 2018, frequently playing Leeds staple venues like Brudenell Social Club, Headrow House and Hyde Park Book Club. In that time supporting Neo-psych forerunners Yin Yin, featuring on lines up with the likes of English Teacher and Crawlers, and gaining support from Launchpad Music and Come Play With Me. LADY now reveal an accomplished, electric recorded sound in their debut EP ‘Birthplace’. Mixed by Oli Deakin, who recently produced CMAT’s ‘If My Wife Knew I’d Be Dead’ and engineered by Jamie Lockhart at Greenmount Studios, Leeds. The instrumentation for each song was recorded live to tape in one take with the entire band together in the live room.
The first single from the EP, ‘Does He Ever Think Of Me?’ received play on Radio 1 BBC Introducing with Gemma Bradley and was chosen as Track Of The Week by BBC Introducing Leeds host Em Pilbeam, saying ‘I already feel like this is going to be in my top 10 from the uploader this year’. The following single 'What This Woman Wants' saw them join Em Pilbeam Live in Session on BBC Introducing Leeds. LADY launched their EP live at Brudenell Social Club on 28th September.
